National Day of Encouragement has been created to encourage and support people pushing through hard times and living with a chronic illness or disability. The goal of this day is to break the stigma around chronic illnesses and disabilities and give hope to those who need it most. Some people believe that their life would be over if they were in a wheelchair but it really is not.
We all need to get a better understanding of what living with a chronic illness or disability means and how to find the power to always stay strong.
This day is a day to give everyone encouragement and a push forward in their life!
What is the National Day of Encouragement?
The purpose of the National Day of Encouragement is to motivate everyone, especially those struggling with a health condition, to stay strong and never give up. The National Day of Encouragement creators wants people everywhere to know that they aren’t alone in their struggles. They want them to know that many people are fighting alongside them, no matter their circumstances.
We all need to understand what living with a chronic illness or disability means. This video provides insight into the lives of four adults living with one of these conditions. This video reveals what it’s like for them every day and how they don’t let their circumstances define them.
The History of National Day of Encouragement
The National Day of Encouragement is a new holiday, but the idea behind it has been around for decades. In 1975, Senator Robert Dole was in a wheelchair after an accident. He created the National Sports Center for the Disabled to provide people with disabilities to live independently and enjoy sports.
This is why there are no limitations regarding how someone can participate in this day of encouragement. You can be in a wheelchair or not, and you can have a chronic illness or not, you can be in the hospital or not, you’re still encouraged.
